Better Understand What's Keeping You Awake

Sleep and mental health are inextricably linked. Whether you struggle to fall asleep, wake up throughout the night, or feel perpetually unrefreshed, understanding the root cause is the key to deep rest.

Understanding Sleep Disturbances & Mental Health

When sleep is disrupted, every facet of emotional wellbeing suffers — irritability spikes, focus wanes, and anxiety intensifies. Conversely, untreated anxiety, depression, trauma, or hormonal changes can wreak havoc on circadian rhythms. Sorting out whether poor sleep is driving your mood or whether your mood is sabotaging your sleep is a core part of psychiatric evaluation.

Common Experiences & Symptoms

Lying awake for hours with a racing mind or physical restlessness
Frequent nighttime awakenings with difficulty getting back to sleep
Waking up hours before the alarm, feeling heavy or dreading the day
Non-restorative sleep, waking up feeling exhausted and unmotivated
Daytime drowsiness, brain fog, and reliance on caffeine to function
Anxiety around bedtime, anticipating another frustrating, sleepless night

How We Approach Assessment & Care

At Xyra Psychiatry, we review your full sleep history alongside medications, caffeine, evening habits, stress levels, and underlying psychiatric symptoms.

We look at evidence-based non-habit-forming sleep options, adjustments to existing psychiatric prescriptions, and referrals for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) — the gold standard non-drug therapy for chronic insomnia.

Medical Scope & Limitations

Xyra Psychiatry does not conduct sleep studies (polysomnography) or diagnose/treat sleep apnea or restless legs syndrome. If an underlying physical or respiratory sleep disorder is suspected, we refer you to a medical sleep medicine physician.

This educational overview is for informational purposes and does not replace individualized clinical evaluation. Diagnoses and prescription decisions are made strictly following a clinical evaluation by a licensed provider.
