Thoughtful Care for Changes in Mood and Energy

Bipolar disorder involves episodes of depression alternating with periods of unusually elevated, irritable, or energized mood. Understanding these shifts is key to finding balance and stability.

Understanding Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar disorder differs fundamentally from ordinary day-to-day mood swings. It is marked by distinct episodes: depressive phases of exhaustion, sadness, and low motivation, and manic or hypomanic phases where energy surges, thoughts race, sleep need plummets, and impulsivity increases. Getting an accurate diagnosis is critical because traditional antidepressant treatments alone can sometimes trigger mood instability in bipolar illness.

Common Experiences & Symptoms

Periods of elevated confidence, rapid speech, or grand plans
Decreased need for sleep without feeling tired the next day
Phases of extreme irritability, agitation, or rapid mood shifts
Impulsive spending, risky behaviors, or rapid decision-making
Depressive episodes with profound fatigue, hopelessness, and isolation
Disrupted circadian rhythms and difficulty maintaining steady routines

How We Approach Assessment & Care

We conduct a comprehensive clinical history, carefully distinguishing between unipolar depression, ADHD, anxiety, and bipolar I or II spectrum conditions. Family psychiatric history, medication responses, and sleep rhythms are examined in detail.

Treatment focuses on long-term mood stabilization, preventative maintenance, sleep protection, and minimizing side effects. We work collaboratively with you, tracking patterns over time to keep your life on an even, sustainable foundation.
